As a DIRECTOR & WRITER of films, commercials, and other media projects in New York City, I enjoy collaborating with [insert non-buzz word synonym for "Passionate"] ARTISTS, ENTREPRENEURS, and AGENCIES to share their BEST SELVES with the world. I'm particularly drawn to projects that are grounded in a strong SOCIAL PURPOSE and [often] exude an off-beat sense of HUMOR.
I grew up in Shelton, CT as an over-achieving, creative child. I composed music, acted in plays, penned [published] poetry, wrote short stories a la 'Goosebumps' and 'The Hardy Boys,' and filmed some epic battles with my action figures. After high-school, I attended Vassar College where I majored in History [officially] and studied drama [less officially]. I then spent the next decade working as a professional actor across the country.
a foundation in DIGITAL MEDIA marketing:
However, I needed to fill in the $ gaps between gigs, so I parlayed some digital skills that I had picked up from previous entrepreneurial tinkerings into working as the in-house digital media manager for a small manufacturing company.
I performed serious surgery on their website, resulting in the improvement of their Google rankings for their top 5 keywords from 20-40th to the #1 or 2 spot and an increase of 400% in monthly sales leads. I also taught myself basic cinematography and editing to create over 60 product demonstration and how-to videos for YouTube and their website. Their quality ranged from barely passable handheld videos in the beginning to mildly swanky productions that incorporated drones and Steadicam shots later on, and a technical foundation in shooting & editing emerged.
intro to FILMMAKING:
Fast forward to 2013: I had some time to kill before another theater gig was to begin, so I decided to write, direct, produce, act in, edit, score, and .... well, pull a control-freak move and create my first short narrative film, Co-Insurance. Even though I was originally motivated by the desire to write myself a good role, I instantly became invigorated by the challenge of leveraging all of my past, seemingly disjointed, artistic & technical skills to bring a story to life. I became obsessed with filmmaking and started studying film & honing my skills whenever I could.
side projects to CAREER:
After Co-Insurance, I continued working on film projects in-between acting gigs. In the fall of 2016, I shifted my focus from acting and filming exclusively to filmmaking. Since then, my films have begun to gain recognition on the festival circuit. Most recently, GRAS: Generally Recognized as Safe screened at the 2017 Sonoma International Film Festival.
